The OSW Arms Deliveries Monitor presents the donations of the most significant categories of military equipment provided to Ukraine, categorised by individual countries and coalitions. We track deliveries of key weapon systems, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, reconnaissance vehicles, tube artillery (over 100 mm, excluding towed mortars), rocket artillery, multipurpose off-road vehicles and MRAP-class vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, and air defense systems.
In monitoring these deliveries, we rely on multiple sources. These include official statements from donor countries announcing arms shipments („ pledged „) and confirming their completion („officially delivered”).
Additionally, based on audiovisual materials available in the media and social networks showing specific types of military equipment in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we attempt to estimate the volume of weapon donations that have not been officially reported but are undeniably being used by the Ukrainian military („probably delivered”).
When donations involve multiple countries and specific details regarding their contributions are unavailable, we categorise the delivery as having been made by a coalition of states, with each member’s contribution considered equal.
If military equipment deliveries (or parts thereof) carried out by one country were financed by another, or if the donor received other weaponry in exchange, we record this in the “Notes” section. However, such cases are still considered deliveries from the original donor country rather than the state or coalition that covered the costs or provided replacement weaponry.
Total number of tanks supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
Among the tanks delivered, the majority belong to the T-72 family, which accounts for over half of all tanks supplied. This is primarily due to Polish donations, as Poland has provided most of these tanks. The T-72 family has been and continues to be in service not only in former Warsaw Pact countries but also in various Middle Eastern and African nations, facilitating procurement and refurbishment by the coalition of supporting states. The biggest advantage of T-72 tanks, aside from their availability, is that Ukrainian soldiers and reservists are already familiar with the operation of these vehicles, significantly reducing training time. However, a major drawback is the outdated design of many of the variants supplied to Ukraine.
Total number of infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
The most common infantry fighting vehicles donated to Ukraine are those of the BMP-1 family, which make up over half of all IFVs delivered. This is mainly because a large number of these vehicles remain in service with former Warsaw Pact states. Besides their availability, the key advantage of the BMP-1 family is Ukrainian soldiers’ and reservists’ widespread familiarity of them, which shortens training times. However, their disadvantages include outdated and heavily worn-out designs, inadequate ballistic protection, and insufficient armament.
Total number of armoured personnel carriers (APCs) supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
Among the armored personnel carriers supplied, the majority are M113 vehicles, constituting over half of all APC deliveries. This is mainly due to the substantial donations from the United States, which possesses thousands of these vehicles, and also due to their widespread use within NATO countries. Many Western nations are phasing out the M113 from service, enabling mass transfers to Ukraine. The drawbacks of the M113 include relatively low ballistic protection and vulnerability to landmines.
Total number of reconnaissance vehicles supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
To stosunkowo nieduża gama pojazdów, wśród których największą część stanowią kanadyjskie LAV-2 Coyote. Pojazdy te cechują umiarkowana osłona balistyczna i dosyć dobre jak na wóz rozpoznania uzbrojenie.
Total number of tube artillery supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
Tube artillery represents the most diverse category of weaponry supplied to Ukraine. The largest group within this category consists of the American M777 towed howitzers—light 155 mm gun-howitzers designed for rapid deployment and helicopter transport. Their advantages include ease of operation, reliability, and a long firing range of up to 40 km. However, their drawbacks include a slow setup time, complete lack of protection, and the need for a large crew to operate them.
Total number of rocket artillery supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
Among the rocket artillery systems, the most numerous are Grad-family vehicles, based on the Soviet-era 122 mm multiple rocket launcher. These systems account for two-thirds of all rocket artillery donations to Ukraine. Additionally, Grad launchers are widely used not only in former Warsaw Pact countries but also in many Middle Eastern, African and Asian nations, facilitating procurement and repairs within the donor coalition. The primary advantage of the Grad system—besides its availability—is Ukrainian soldiers’ and reservists’ familiarity with it, significantly reducing training time. However, its drawbacks include an outdated design and a relatively short range of approximately 20 km.
Total number of multipurpose off-road vehicles and MRAP-class vehicles supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
Multipurpose off-road vehicles and MRAP-class vehicles constitute the broadest category of military equipment supplied to Ukraine. The most common among them are American HMMWVs, which make up nearly half of all delivered vehicles of this type. Their main advantage is their large production volume—over 280,000 units have been manufactured, ensuring a high availability of spare parts. Additionally, these vehicles offer excellent manoeuvrability in difficult terrain.
Total number of aircrafts supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
Currently, the most frequently supplied aircraft to Ukraine are Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets. However, this may soon shift in favour of American F-16s, with 79 units pledged for delivery to Ukraine by early 2025. The advantage of MiG-29s lies in the familiarity which Ukrainian pilots and ground maintenance crews have with this model. However, their drawbacks include their outdated design and significant wear and tear on the units being transferred. On the other hand, while the F-16s being delivered to Ukraine are far more advanced than the MiGs, they come from the oldest production series, making them somewhat obsolete and heavily used as well.
Total number of helicopters supplied individually by countries and by the coalition of states
The most commonly delivered helicopters to Ukraine belong to the Soviet-designed Mi-8/Mi-17 family. These helicopters are widely used not only in former Warsaw Pact countries but also in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Moreover, the US had acquired a significant number of these helicopters for the Afghan government but never had the chance to transfer them, thus increasing their availability for Ukraine. This widespread availability facilitates procurement and refurbishment. The Mi-8/Mi-17 helicopters’ greatest advantages include their large cargo capacity and Ukrainian soldiers’ familiarity with them, significantly reducing training time. However, their disadvantages include outdated designs and the often worn-out condition of the units being delivered.
