Second final seminar on the migration forecasting project (EU/V4 Eastern Europe)

On June 25, in Kyiv, in the premises of Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, the second seminar promoting the results of migration forecasting project took place. The seminar has been organised by the OSW in cooperation with Institute for Economic Reform and Policy Consulting from Kyiv (IER). The event gathered experts, diplomats, migration and consular officials. The presentation has been divided into three main parts. At the beginning introductory remarks and political perspective on current EU/Ukrainian migration and visa challenges have been presented. Distinguished speakers at this session included: Dr Olaf Osica, OSW Director, Prof. Ihor Burakovsky, IER Head of Board, Mr Andrii Sybiha, Director of Consular Department at Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Rafał Wolski, Polish Consul General in Kyiv. Mr Robert Baran, Deputy Director of Migration Policy Department at Polish Ministry of Interior. The second session was devoted to the presentation of project’s results. Dr Marta Jaroszewicz (OSW) showed main results of the research, Ms Oleksandra Betliy (IER) focused on Ukrainian perspective, Dr Wadim Striełkowski (Charles University, Prague) presented assumption of forecasting econometric model and Dr. Bernd Parusel (Swedish Migration Board) demonstrated on the lesson learnt from previous waves of visa liberalisation.  The conclusions were summarised by Prof. Ihor Burakovsky and Mr. Dmytro Shulga, Head of European Programme at International Renaissance Foundation.
