On 19th of May the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW) hosted a seminar entitled “Security in the Baltic Sea region: information campaigns, hybrid warfare, real wars?”. The seminar was focused on the objectives of Russian foreign and security policy with regard to the Baltic Sea region, the concepts and instruments of hybrid and information warfare as well as the prospects of military cooperation in the region. The seminar gathered experts from research institutes: FOI and UI (Sweden), Aleksanteri Institute and FIIA (Finland), IFS (Norway), CMS (Denmark), SWP (Germany), ICDS (Estonia), EESC (Lithuania); from the Swedish, Latvian and Lithuanian National Defence Colleges and the Baltic Defence College as well as representatives from the MFAs and MODs from the Nordic countries, Baltic states, Germany and Poland.
The seminar was a part of the Baltic Security Network project that the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW) and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) started in 2015 under the leadership of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ministries of Defence of Poland and Sweden. The initiative is aimed at providing the impulses required to increase regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. Regular seminars will be organised devoted to various fields of security and defence policy. Output papers will be drafted to present conclusions and recommendations. The participation of MFA and MOD representatives will provide insight into the project from practitioners and will ensure channels via which identified cooperation opportunities may be implemented.
